How do I choose a coil?

The coil heats the e-liquid where it meets the wick: it is the part that wears out fastest on a tank or an empty pod, and it decides the flavour and the amount of vapour long before the device itself does.

Spotting the right product

A coil is designed for a specific tank, and often for a single generation of that tank. At Voopoo, the PnP, the PnP X and the PnP X V2 are not interchangeable, even though the names look alike. At Vaporesso, the GTX V1 and the GTX V2 are two distinct generations. The full name, printed on the coil or on its original packaging, remains the most reliable guide.

What value in ohms should I choose?

The value in ohms of a coil decides the type of vape. Below 0.8ohm, the draw opens up and the vapour and flavour increase: this is the setting for empty pods with strong airflow and for low-nicotine liquids. Above 1ohm, the draw tightens, close to a cigarette, for a calmer mouth-to-lung vape. Our coils range from 0.15 to 1.8ohm, mostly mesh.

Mesh, Dual Mesh or U-Tech: what is the difference?

Mesh technology replaces the wound wire with a perforated plate: the heating surface is larger and the temperature rises faster and more evenly. Dual Mesh, like the GTi Dual Mesh, combines two plates for even more vapour. U-Tech blends a round wick with a traditional wire, designed for a comfortable mouth-to-lung vape.

How long does a coil last and how do I prime it?

A coil lasts one to two weeks on average, less with sweet liquids that quickly clog the wick. Before first use, let the coil rest for a few minutes after filling so the cotton soaks up the liquid: vaping it dry, even for a few seconds, burns the wick and leaves a permanent burnt taste.

Coil for a tank or for an empty pod?

Frequently asked questions

How do I know which coil to buy?

You buy a coil by looking for the exact name of the tank or empty pod engraved on the device, never by guessing from its appearance. The table by brand above and the shop's Brand filter let you find the matching product in a few clicks.

Why does my coil taste burnt from the first fill?

A new coil that burns from the first puffs has almost never had time to soak. After installing and filling, wait five to ten minutes before vaping, wick facing down if possible, to let the cotton absorb the e-liquid.

Can I reuse a coil that is already clogged?

No, these ready-made coils cannot be cleaned like a rebuildable build: once the wick is clogged or burnt, the whole coil is replaced. Only the wire and cotton of a rebuildable can be redone by hand.

What is the difference between an MTL coil and a DL coil?

An MTL coil (mouth-to-lung vaping) has a tight draw and a higher value in ohms, close to a cigarette. A DL coil (direct-to-lung vaping) has an open draw, a lower value in ohms and produces more vapour.

Does a high-ohm coil use more or less liquid?

A high-ohm coil uses less liquid than a low-ohm coil: the tighter draw reduces the airflow and the amount vaporised with each puff, which suits formats with a high nicotine strength.
