Box Mod Kits

How do I choose a box mod kit?

A box mod kit adds a screen, several modes and a screw-on tank to the battery, instead of a pod that clips in. It is the device for vapers who want to adjust their vape rather than put up with it, and who want more vapour than a pod can give.

More power for an airy vape

A box mod delivers 30W to 220W depending on the model, well above the 15W to 80W of a pod kit. That power suits an airy draw, known as DL, where the vapour is inhaled straight into the lungs: it is denser and the flavour is stronger, as long as you use an e-liquid with a low nicotine strength. The Aegis Legend 2 and the Luxe 80 are good examples of this style.

Built-in battery or removable 18650/21700?

An entry-level box mod has a built-in battery, like the Proteus Neo. The most powerful models, such as the Aegis Legend 5 or the Centaurus M200, run on one or two removable 18650 or 21700 batteries, which you can charge separately or swap in seconds so you never run out of vape.

The screw-on tank, bigger than a pod

Unlike a pod kit, a box mod takes a tank screwed onto a 510 connector, with a capacity of 3.5ml to 6.5ml and top filling on almost every model. The tank can be changed independently of the box: Z Series coils fit the 5.5ml Zeus glass of the Z50 and the Aegis Legend, GTi coils fit the GTX One Pro, and the iTank T fits the Target 80.

Screen and modes: fine adjustment

Most box mods have a 0.96 to 1.08 inch colour TFT screen, with several modes (power, temperature, memory) a few clicks away. Some models, such as the Aegis Solo 2, are IP68 rated, resistant to water, dust and knocks.

Frequently asked questions

Is a box mod kit suitable for beginners?

A box mod kit suits a vaper who already has some experience, or who wants to move quickly to a more intense vape. If you have no experience, it is better to start with a pod kit, which is easier to pick up, before moving on to a box mod.

Do I need to buy an 18650 battery separately?

A separate 18650 or 21700 battery is needed on box mods that do not include one, as stated on each product page. Models with a built-in battery, like the Proteus Neo, do not need one: they charge directly over USB-C.

Why is the vapour denser than with a pod?

The vapour from a box mod is denser because the power delivered, up to 220W, heats a coil with a larger surface area than a pod cartridge. The airy draw that results calls for a low-nicotine e-liquid, otherwise the throat hit will be too strong.

How do I know which tank fits my box mod?

The tank on a box mod is recognised by its 510 connector, standard on almost every model on this page: a 510 tank from another brand screws on without any problem. Coils, however, are specific to each tank range, like the Z-Coils of the Z50 or the GTi coils of the GTX One Pro.

What does IP68 certification offer?

IP68 certification protects a box mod against water, dust and knocks, a real plus for outdoor use or when carried in a bag. The Aegis Solo 2 and the Aegis Legend 2 benefit from it, without changing how the device works day to day.
