Box Mods

How do I choose a vape box mod?

The box mod is the electronic part of your e-cigarette: it holds the battery, the screen and the settings. It is always used with an atomizer screwed on top, sold separately.

Single battery, dual battery or built-in battery?

A box mod with a removable battery is recharged by swapping the 18650 battery, one or two at a time depending on the model: some also accept the 21700 or 20700 format. It is the most flexible solution, as you can always keep a spare battery in your pocket. A box mod with a built-in battery, like the Aegis Solo 3 3000mAh, charges directly from the mains, with 2600mAh to 3000mAh depending on the model. A spare battery or charger can be found in Batteries and Chargers.

What power should I choose?

The power of a box mod ranges from 40W to 220W depending on the model. Compact box mods like the iStick X40 or the iStick TC 40W top out at 40W, enough for an MTL tank. Box mods like the iStick T80, the iStick X80 or the Nitrous Pocket Peek Edition 80W Box go up to 80W, and the Spectre 100W Box to 100W, the most common setting on this page. For the biggest clouds, the Rayden 220W and its Rare Edition version reach 220W. The accepted resistance range runs from 0.1 to 3ohm, enough to cover MTL and sub ohm coils alike.

Screen and settings

Most box mods show their settings on a TFT screen, from 0.96 to 1.47 inch, in colour on several models. The modes available vary from one box mod to another: wattage setting, voltage setting, bypass mode, temperature control, or even a Pulse mode that chops the power on every puff. Some box mods add a Smart or Boosting mode to adjust the power automatically at the start of the inhale.

Which atomizer should I screw on top?

All the box mods on this page use the 510 connector, the standard thread of the atomizers on the market: tanks and rebuildables alike screw straight on. Just check the diameter of the atomizer against that of the box mod to avoid overhang, and the resistance range stated on the product page.

Frequently asked questions

How long does the battery of a vape box mod last?

A vape box mod generally lasts a day of normal use before recharging, more or less depending on the power used. On a box mod with a removable battery, you just slip in a charged 18650 battery and carry on straight away. On a box mod with a built-in battery, allow the time for a full USB-C charge before you can vape again, unless you keep a spare battery to hand.

Single battery or dual battery, which should I choose?

A single 18650 battery is enough for classic use, in MTL or moderate DL, and keeps the box mod compact. Dual 18650 batteries give more battery life and support the highest power levels, as on the box mods that go up to 220W. The choice depends mostly on the power you are aiming for and the size you want in your pocket.

What does IP68 mean on a box mod?

The IP68 rating means a box mod is protected against dust and water splashes, useful if you vape outdoors or on the move. Several box mods on this page carry this protection, a real plus for the everyday lifespan of the device.

Is a vape box mod compatible with every atomizer?

A vape box mod with the 510 connector, standard across this page, takes most atomizers on the market: you just need to check that the diameter of the atomizer does not overhang the box mod too much, and that its resistance range matches the one stated on the box mod's product page.

How do you charge a vape box mod?

A vape box mod charges over USB-C on almost every model on this page, at speeds ranging from 2A to 3A depending on the box mod. On box mods with removable batteries, an external charger is still an option to charge one battery while the other stays in use, and you can find those in Batteries and Chargers.
