30ml Flavour Concentrates

How do I choose a 30ml flavour concentrate?

A 30ml flavour concentrate is the most common size for making a DIY e-liquid: big enough to make several bottles, affordable enough to try several recipes.

Spotting your recipe

A flavour concentrate always carries a recipe name, sometimes released in several generations or editions by the same brand. At Maison Fuel, for example, the Fighter Fuel range includes variants like Shigeri and Lady Shigeri, or the Fighter Fuel x Enfer editions: check the full name carefully before ordering, as they are not the same recipes.

The dosage, shown on every bottle

The dosage of a flavour concentrate varies from one brand to another and always appears on the label of the bottle. Depending on the brand and the intensity you want, it is most often between 8 and 15% of the final volume. Follow this dosage to the letter: an under-dosed concentrate gives a flat e-liquid, while an over-dosed one can become sickly or harsh on the throat.

How much e-liquid can a 30ml bottle make?

A 30ml bottle of flavour concentrate, dosed at between 8 and 15%, makes between 200ml and 375ml of e-liquid once topped up with a PG/VG base and, if needed, a nicotine shot. The lower the recommended dosage, the more the bottle makes.

30ml or 10ml size?

The 30ml size costs less per litre and suits recipes you have already settled on, made in several bottles at once. The 10ml size is better kept for a first try, on a flavour you do not know yet.

Steeping time

A freshly made mix from a flavour concentrate is best left to rest for a few days before vaping: the notes mellow and the smell of alcohol or solvent found in some concentrates fades. Dessert or tobacco recipes, like Barrel Aged Tobacco or Classic Blond, often need a longer rest than fruity, fresh recipes like Apple or Cool Blue Slush. The only reliable guide is to taste the mix at regular intervals.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a 30ml and a 10ml flavour?

A 30ml flavour concentrate costs less per litre and suits making several bottles of a recipe you already know, whereas a 10ml bottle lets you try a flavour in a small volume before committing to a larger size.

Can I vape a 30ml flavour concentrate neat?

No, a flavour concentrate is never vaped neat: it must always be diluted in a PG/VG base before use. Vaped as it is, it is far too strong and irritates the throat.

Can I mix several flavour concentrates together?

Yes, mixing several flavour concentrates together lets you create your own recipe, for example by pairing a fruity base like Mango with a fresher note like Cool Red Slush, as long as you keep the total dosage within the limit shown on the bottles used.

Can I add an additive to a 30ml flavour concentrate?

Yes, an additive can complete a 30ml flavour concentrate without changing its main profile: it is used to adjust a detail, such as a note of freshness or smoothness, in a small quantity.

What should I do if my mix smells of alcohol or solvent after opening?

A smell of alcohol or solvent at the time of mixing is normal on a freshly diluted flavour concentrate: it fades during the resting time. If the smell lingers after several days, the dosage is probably too high for the recipe.

What should I do if two brands give different dosages for a mix?

Each brand sets its own recommended dosage according to the concentration of its flavours: there is no single rule valid for all recipes. Always follow the manufacturer's instructions on the bottle rather than a dosage used for another brand.
