The Eleaf iStick X40 Box Mod answers a familiar problem for anyone who vapes all day away from a socket: what to do when the battery dies at the wrong moment? Its 3000mAh cell is not soldered into the body, so you can take it out and swap in a cell charged in advance, avoiding a long wait for a full recharge in the middle of the day. Eleaf claims around three days of autonomy before recharging, an estimate that of course depends on how intensively you vape.

Settings and display

The 1.05-inch colour screen shows power, voltage and charge level at a glance, and charging is done through a USB-C cable, quicker to plug in than the old micro-USB connectors. Power goes up to 40W, enough to cover a tight draw (MTL, like a cigarette) with a small tank, or a more open draw (DL, direct to lung) with a lower-resistance coil, depending on what you fit on it.
