A thick Ni80 wire for your home builds

This Ni80 26 GA resistance wire from Geekvape is for vapers who make their own coils for a rebuildable atomizer (RTA, RDA or RDTA). Ni80, also called nichrome 80, is an alloy of 80% nickel and 20% chromium. It rises quickly in temperature, which shortens the wait between pressing the button and the vapour arriving. The spool contains 30 feet of wire, a little over 9 metres, enough to make many coils.

Why 26 GA?

The GA gauge expresses thickness: the smaller the number, the thicker the wire. At 0.40mm in diameter, the 26 GA gives, with the same number of wraps, a lower value than a fine wire and a stiffer coil. It is often chosen for airy vape builds (DL, direct-to-lung inhalation, the vapour goes straight to the lungs with plenty of air). For a tight vape, the finer Ni80 28 GA wire will be more suitable.

Building tips

• Vape in power (watts) mode: Ni80 is not designed for temperature control.
• Check the value of each build on your box or with an ohm meter before the first puff.
• Heat the bare coil in short pulses and make sure all the wraps glow at the same time before fitting the cotton.
